WCN Board meets with WI Board of Nursing

Members of the WCN board attended the Wisconsin Board of Nursing (BON) meeting on May 17th, 2007 to request support for the collection of nurse (RN & LPN) workforce data. The BON did pass a motion indicating support of the concept. WCN continues to explore and work to develop a systematic method to collect this important information.

NEW ~ RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars Call for Applications Released

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Nurse Faculty Scholars Application Deadline: April 1, 2008

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation announced a new scholars program to develop the next generation of national leaders in academic nursing through career development awards for outstanding junior nursing faculty. The RWJF Nurse Faculty Scholars program will provide $28 million over the next five years to outstanding junior nursing faculty to help them advance in their fields and seek faculty positions earlier in their careers by providing mentorship, leadership training, salary and research support.

Applicants must be nominated by the dean of a fully-accredited U.S. nursing school and meet the eligibility requirements.

Statewide Clinical Placement Summit:
Meeting the Challenge of Expanding Clinical Nursing Opportunities

The work of the Clinical Summit will continue regionally in the state. WCN is assisting to facilitate the work in the SE region.

RWJ and Local Consortium to Address Nursing Shortage: Public Health Nursing Targeted for Improvement

"The Faye McBeath Foundation, leading a consortium of over a dozen funding, nursing and public health partners, has been selected for funding in the second round of Partners Investing in Nursing’s Future, (PIN). PIN is a national initiative to develop and test local solutions to end America’s nursing shortage.

The Faye McBeath Foundation and the Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN) have successfully received this grant from the Robert Wood Johnston Foundation titled "Raising the Bar". The grant, initiating in the fall of 2007, focuses on public health nursing. It involves 4-5 academic institutions and 4-5 public health/community health agencies. The grant includes a redesigned BSN level curriculum for community/public health nursing, senior student trainee-ships and a 1 year job placement for 15-25 senior student nurses.

Faye McBeath Foundation has supported WCN since its formation as a coalition of employers, academic institutions and nurses."

Biographical Information: Paula Lucey
President of Lamplighter Consulting. Her consulting practice focuses on community initiatives to address the underserved and activities related to nursing. Ms. Lucey was the first woman and only nurse director of Milwaukee County Department of Health and Human Services. Previously she was Director of Milwaukee County Health Programs, Associate Hospital Administrator and Chief Nursing Officier of John L. Doyne Hospital. Paula is an alumni of the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellowship and has many national and local awards.

Faye McBeath Foundation Awards Grant to WCN

On May 4th, The Faye McBeath Foundation awarded WCN a $30,000 grant for Transitional Support. $15,000 of this grant is in the form of a challenge grant.
